Week 30: Ciudad Real, La Mancha District

2:03 PM

Monday- for p day, we played some bad-mitten and that was about the only exciting thing that we did. Then just the regular stuff. That night we tried meeting with a few futures and Manuel but our plans kind of didn't work out. To be honest, I know we did for sure teach a lesson with someone but with who, I'm not sure because I don't have it written down for some reason.

Tuesday- we had our first district meeting with the new district and it went well. Elder Llavina did an awesome job being district leader. We talked a lot about how to use our time wisely. Then that evening we taught Alisia and that went well. She makes me laugh so much; she really is just one of the funniest ladies in the whole world. We taught the plan of salvation and it went well, we really really made sure to keep it simple and make sure she understood the basics. It's been great to teach her because I've had to learn how to really teach simply, honestly as if I was teaching a child. Then we went and tried visiting the Bolivian family and contacted on the way but didn't get too much success. Then we received something miraculous. A reference from the Mormon.org website! I've never had one of these in my mission. They are a married Argentine family that lives in a Pueblo outside Ciudad real. We called and they said they were waiting for us to call them and are really interested in the Book of Mormon. They said they'd come to Ciudad Real on Thursday so we could teach them.

Wednesday- so elder Llavina received a surprise call that he goes to Malaga Thursday so that was complicated. I was going to have to go to Puertollano and Thursday was going to be one of our most busy days so we were really bummed because it was going to hurt the work a lot. But something awesome happened. My branch president Carlos said he would be my companion that day. So all day Thursday, my companion will be president Carlos. But in the morning we did weekly planning. Then that night, we met with Lorena. She still hasn't come to church and always has some excuse, so we were planning on talking about that, but we had the impression to instead read the Book of Mormon with her. We did and it was a wonderful lesson. We set another lesson for Friday. Then we taught English classes and that went well and then after we taught Toni and he still is more interested in the English aspect than the god aspect but we still plan on helping him once in a while and also teach him more about god.

Thursday- probably one of the best days of my whole mission. Elder Llavina was in Malaga all day for meetings (I promise that's not why it was awesome, I love elder Llavina) so our branch president Carlos offered to be my companion all day 6:30am- 10:00pm. What an awesome guy and I don't know what it is, but his presence brought some truly great miracles. First, we taught the reference from Mormon.org, Daniel and Nancy. These people are absolutely awesome, I've never been more astounded by investigators. At the end of the restoration they said they'd pray and read the Book of Mormon and come to church. More on them to come. Then we visited a member who we discovered really needed us in that moment which is miraculous. Then we went back to his house and his wife (who will be giving birth in 2 weeks) made some paella. Then we went to pick up a package of his that was at the packaging company. While In there the worker just randomly asked "how's the Book of Mormon?" What??? He explained he had met with missionaries back in 1992 when he was way young and he still had a Book of Mormon and wondered if there were still missionaries here. Of course! So I got his number. That was an incredible miracle, I talk to 20 people every day maybe and get the number of 2 people? But people just asking to be taught lately instead of us offering to teach? It's been crazy to me. Then we taught Manuel. Don't remember if I mentioned this but he has to return to Dominican Republic for a bit to care for his dying mother. President Carlos got his address and plans to send missionaries to him there and we taught a powerful lesson to him. Then we visited a kind of less active member Irma and it went well. Then we visited Jenny Valentine and Yerani the "dry members" as we call them. It went great. Then that was it. I loved that day, president Carlos probably taught me more than any missionary has. Recent convert of 10 years, served a mission after 5, branch president, he's worked hard in the church! Such a great day.

Friday- we taught Lorena and we got after her a lot for not completing her commitments. We basically told her we invited you to do 3 things, you haven't done them, so what do we need to help you with so you do them. She said we've done all we can, she just needs to do them. We talked mostly about that.   Then that night we met with Alicia. She's literally another miracle. It's been a while since I've cried in a lesson, but I did because of her progression and how its strengthened my testimony. We taught her the gospel of Christ and where it used to be, we presented a new idea and had to explain it tons of times and she'd go off topic, she understood everything and was on topic the whole time. She's progressed so much and it's because she's done the simple things. She reads even though she barely can, she prays and has learned how to pray so well, and she comes to church all 3 hours with a smile on her face. She told us during the lesson that during the baptism of Manuel, she's never felt something so powerful in her life. She also said that during the sacrament, it feels like all her pains are taken away momentarily. From where she's come and where she is now is a complete change. At the end, during her prayer I just started crying a little thinking how God truly does live up to his promises. We do the things he asks, we find happiness. It's as simple as that. You don't need to complicate it, you don't need to be a genius, you just have to do what God asks and he will strengthen you. What a testimony builder for me. The only thing for Alisia now is the word of wisdom. She knows and understands it and she even went 9 days without alcohol but she fell short one day and the next day she said she felt terrible. But we know it, and she knows it. This is true and the lord will strengthen her.

Saturday- we agreed to do a picnic with Kriss out in the frontera of La Mancha because she's been helping us with so many lessons. It was way fun. That evening we tried contacting references but most people have gone out of town for the vacations of Semana Santa which start Monday and last all week. So it wasn't much of a night

Sunday- church was awesome. We had 7 investigators in church was awesome! Daniel and Nancy came and loved it and one can see they are really smart. Daniel was a traveling civil engineer and has lived in many countries. Where most people we teach are humble of heart and substance, Daniel and Nancy aren't so much in substance but they are looking for the truth. Just goes to show, doesn't matter your circumstances are how old you are, the gospel is for everyone. But church went amazingly. The members really did their part in helping our investigators. Lorena didn't come so we weren't happy about that. That evening was a lot of crazy stuff with elder Llavina and his district leader stuff so we didn't get much work done.
