Week 19: Cadiz Casco Antiguo, Cadiz District

7:40 AM

Monday-  P day was pretty good, we didn't do much, just the usual ping pong.  I'm getting pretty good.  After that we taught Senor Javi, who is being a little difficult. He wants to move his baptism date and doesn't want to set it exact yet.  We asked him to really pray about it and read the scriptures with a calendar in front of him and decide when he would feel good about being baptized.  It's a little frustrating but it's just the way it is.  After Elder Mitchell and I went to give many blessings to a less active family in the ward that the Hermanas are teaching.

Tuesday- The morning was district meeting which went really well. Then after district meeting we met up with the less active Young Single Adult Fernando and he introduced us to a bunch of his friends who aren't members.  They're all these young successful dudes who were from Cadiz but moved to Madrid for their jobs and they were way awesome.  They were very respectful to us and asked very good questions but said they really weren't interested it right now, but that they still plan to talk to Fernando about it and stuff.  I guess these days, I just take what I can get with teaching lessons because it has been very difficult to find people to teach lately. Just getting people to listen is enough to make me happy.  Then we went to an appointment we had set with one of our Dominican Investigators (who we are very close to dropping) and she wasn't there!!! Again!! This is the like 3rd time this has happened so... Then we tried to go find just anyone to teach.  We called everyone, went house to house, and no one was home.  It was a rough night for sure and it's been a while I've been that annoyed with a day.  Everyone we tried talking to in the street was either drunk or said they had no interest so Tuesday night was not my favorite night.  But hey, that's okay, not all days are going to be fine and dandy.

Wednesday- So this morning we went to Juan, a less active that we are reactivating for sure!! He wants to improve his life and come back to church so that's way cool.  We then went to some people me and Elder Stephens had found by complete accident one time named Desire and Geovanni and it was way cool. So we went there and they let us in because they're way nice and we taught a very good lesson, gave them a Book of Mormon, and they were really grateful and said that they wanted to read it that night.  I'm very excited for them, I sure hope they come to find the truth by reading and praying, because I know they can if they will do it! Then me and Elder Mitchell went to do some finding of Old investigators but that didn't yield much so we knocked on some doors and we had a fun experience.  This little old lady answered the door and was just so nice to us and let us in and showed us all of the pictures of her family and her whole house and everything.  Then we explained who we were and stuff.  Then she showed us all of the pictures of her family and her house.  Then we explained who we were.  Then she wanted to show us all the pictures of her family. Then... I think you get the point.  Without needing to be said, it was clear this lady had pretty sever Alzheimer’s. But she was so nice and kept explaining how she loved our church (I don't think she actually knew who we were) and how we help so many people and we're a very good people.  She was very devoted to God, and it was wonderful to meet her.  Then we went and taught English classes which was nice.  Then we were supposed to meet with Javi but we met at the place and he wasn't there and we waited and then left all sad but figured out that he had forgotten his phone in a members car and we nwere super late from english class, so he had left right before we arrived.

Thursday- Now Happy New Year! Yes, I realize in my last weekly email, I accidentally but New Years rather than Christmas Eve.  But now it rally is New Year.  So we were required to work through the day, and then we didn't have permission to stay up late, so it was basically just a regular day.  So the Morning we went to Ana's house and she had just barely bought some interesting sea food... We ate all of it... it was interesting but I guess it was pretty okay. Then the Evening we tried visiting some people but nobody really wanted to be visited today so... Then we had a nice New Years dinner at Juani's house and she was really disappointed we couldn't stay all night, but we did the nice Spanish tradition of eating the 12 grapes at the New Year at about 10:00, and that was fun.  And yea, that was my New Year.

Friday- Wow, have i never seen the streets here so empty.  New Years is pretty crazy here so not many people were probably going to be awake until quite late.  So we did some weekly planning, and then we did our yearly area plan which was fun.  Then we went and out to lunch with our Young Single Adult friend Fernando and this was what he told us "It it probably a really bad idea to try to ring people's doorbells today because they'll just be very annoyed with you, and if you try to visit members or Less Actives, they'll probably just be wishing that you would leave the whole time." So that didn't really make us too excited to work.  But we went out and tried anyway and let’s just say he wasn't exactly wrong... Nobody answered their doors and there were barely any people in the streets, so it was a rather unexciting night.

Saturday- We started the day off with Futbol once again! It was a way fun game, and we met some new people who we shared a little about what we do as missionaries and we plan to try to talk to them more.  Then that night was again literally nothing... We actually got a hold of like 4 Old Investigators meaning they were at one point investigating, but then the missionaries dropped them for some reason, and all of them said to come visit them after the holidays.  If I haven't mentioned it yet, in Spain January 6th is Tres Reyes which celebrates the three wise men giving gifts to Christ and it's basically bigger than Christmas so I'm still in the Midst of holiday season and let’s just say all these huge holidays have made being a missionary difficult. We were able to finally get ahold of our Dominican Investigators but she was sick so she didn't really want a visit at that moment.

Sunday- Church was way good.  The best part was one of our members was bearing his testimony talking on how everyone should try and visit less actives in the ward, and how he had seen newspaper article about a little Haitian shop here in Casco Antiguo that's actually owned by a less active member.  We had seen this name before in our area book and were way excited so we decided to pass by there after church.  We met Ronald in this little Haitian art shop that I have literally passed by every day my whole time here because it's super close to wear we live. We walked in and we weren't exactly warmly greeted.  He was a nice guy, but he didn't seem to want anything to do with the church.  We just tried talking to him, getting to know a little bit about his life, and he was a little cold towards us but we got to know him a little.  We'll keep passing by him and stuff and pray about it. Then we went to a Family Home Evening with the family of Noellia which is the young woman of our church now going out with our investigator Javi, and that went well.  Then we went trying to just call and talk to people in the streets and not too much happened.

Well with the New Year, I thought I’d share some of my New Years Goals with you, because we were asked to make some for ourselves for the year.  One of my big ones is to make sure I don't complain. Sometimes I feel I fall into the pitfall of complaining about my circumstances or something, and so my goal is to just submit to the will of our Heavenly Father.  Also, if you read the Book of Mormon, you'll notice that murmuring always lead to something bad. I don't want to be one of those murmurers.  Another is to try and get out of my comfort zone with some things.  If I'll be straight up, I'm not a fan of street contacting.  I don't feel very good at it, so my goal is to just do it and keep doing it.  It's just one of those things you get good at by doing it a lot, there's no practicing it.  So that's what I’ll try.  I hope everyone had a great new year!!!
