Elder Hirst update week 67
1:41 PM
Monday- P day was fun, we went
to the frontier of Sevilla to go to Costco. Kind of sad to think i'm in one of
the greatest cities in spain and my greatest desire to do on my free time is to
go to a giant American store. Then that night we saw so many awesome
miracles. We were on our way to go visit some investigators but we passed
by a hair dresser shop where a less active from ward 1 works and we felt we
should pass by and say hello so we went back and we looked in and there was a
different lady who was inside. We looked and we saw that she was crying
so we decided to knock on the door and ask what was wrong. She answered
and said that she was fine, but finally she just broke down crying again
because she said she was diagnosed with cancer and is really scared for her
life and her family. She said that in that moment she was praying so the
lord could strengthen her in her fears and right in that moment, we knocked on
the door. We shared a message about faith and hope and she loved it and
really wants us to come and teach her more. Later we taught our new Paraguayan
investigators and they are progressing so far! It's hard to meet with them
often though. Then later, we found a man while knocking on doors and he was
interested and let us enter in and teach him a lesson and wants us to come
back
Tuesday- we had district meeting
in the morning and then we went to the Nigerian
Recent convert's house
Morrison to start helping him prepare to go to the temple! He is very excited
and he even had some ancestor's names prepared. He also had some friends come
in later and we talked with them and they were way awesome. Later we met with
the Argentinian family and they are having some major challenges right now but
we promised them that if they really sacrifice and put forth the effort to
follow the commitments we tell them, god will bless them
Wednesday- we started the day
just contacting and we were able to teach a very nice Nigerian lady on the
bench and then 2 people from El Salvador in the street. Later, we taught
another Nigerian man who became like our best friend on a bench. Then we taught
a recent convert teenager from Peru named Yesus, and he's been having a tough
situation but has lots of faith. Then we basically spent the whole night
teaching tons of people in the streets, we met many great people. Then it got
interesting. We had sat down on a bench so I could find an address on my map on
my iPad, and a man came sprinting by and snatched it out of my hands and
started sprinting away, in other words, I got straight up robbed. Well, we
weren't about to lose it so we sprinted after him and my companion elder owens
got to him and nearly through the guy to the ground, but just grabbed a hand
full of his jacket, ripping it off in the process. Realizing we had caught him,
The man got very frightened and threw my iPad on the ground and totally took
out a knife and threatened us with it and said "I've got a knife!!!" So
we just backed away, but it was clear he was more scared of us at that point
than we were of him, so we just started walking away. Crazy stuff though, I
never get sick of preaching in the ghetto!! We were super shaken up so we just
went to this computer place that one of our very good Nigerian friends owns,
and he had 2 friends there from Columbia so we shared a message with all of
them. God truly has provided miracles this week but it made me realize that
we've definitely got to stop testing our chances and start being more
careful.
Thursday- weekly planning, and
then basically that night we didn't have much because it just started raining,
and it basically didn't stop raining until the next Monday morning. I've had a
very wet winter here in Sevilla. We stopped by the house of a widow in the ward
with one of her home teachers and were able to give her a priesthood blessing
because she was feeling sick. There's no better feeling than helping the
sick and the needy, it just makes you appreciate what you have and also feel
god's love for his children. The rest of the evening We met a ton of
people and taught a lot of people in the street and stuff, and we were showing
the video of #IlumindaElMundo a ton it was great
Friday- we taught one of the
recent converts in our area and she's kind of struggling with some doubts she's
having. We explained our that salvation really is going to require a
sacrifice. One of my favorite quotes is "Anything in this world that
really matters requires a sacrifice." We hope she can overcome her
difficulties. That evening we actually really focused on finding some places to
do service at, so we went to some catholic churches where we know they give
food to the poor and asked if we could help in any way and they referred us to
some places that they know need volunteers so we hope to find some service we
can do.
Saturday- We had correlation
with our ward mission leader and it was good, we have a plan to decorate a
bunch of member's doors with christmas stuff it'll be fun. Then that evening we
were able to see the lady we met at the hair dressing shop, her name is Sonia
and she's from Venezuela. She had a client there so we couldn't teach,
but we got to talk to her, she's way awesome.
Sunday- Church was
Great!!!!
I just wanted to quickly share
my testimony about how i really love to see the lord's hand in this
world. I know that he truly talks to us through the feelings we receive
from the spirit. I have learned that more than anything in my mission. I
also know that the lord protects us and if we are keeping the commandments, he
will strengthen us when we need him. I know that miracles still exist and
i'm so grateful for the restored gospel that gives me this knowledge which i
have a testimony of.
