Week 20: Cadiz Casco Antiguo, Cadiz District
11:29 AMMonday- so all the huge sales here in Spain are about to start, and they are sweet! You can buy a super nice suit for like 50 euros, so I was doing a little previewing. Then we went and played ping pong with our investigator Javi and he's for sure progressing. I think he's becoming much more comfortable in the church. Then these two people at the place where we were playing ping pong came up and started talking to us, so we taught them and they gave us their information. Then they asked if I wanted to play foosball and I said yes but if I beat them, they would have to come to church. Needless to say, I won... Haha just kidding but yea I did win so they promised me they'd come to church. It was way awesome. I just love having unplanned teaching opportunities. The Lord truly does work in Interesting ways. We have a terrible week of finding no one, and then finally, while playing ping Pong we find two new people. That's an example of the lord humbling you to make sure you're still willing to work!
Tuesday- we visited the less active that we are reactivating and we also met his son who we want to try and work with because he's not a member. Then we went by our new investigators, Desire y Geovanni but they were busy preparing for the Reyes festival tomorrow so they didn't have much time. Then that night the hermanas had some investigators that were really devastated because they had nothing to give their kids for Reyes and also didn't know if they had enough money to buy any food, so we helped the hermanas get some food from the huge bishops storehouse that we had collected a while back for our service project and give to the people as a surprise. We walked up the 4 flights of stairs and dropped off all the food, rang the doorbell and ran. It was the best feeling doorbell ditch ive ever had! Then we tried contacting some references we received from our office but they weren't there.
Wednesday-
Happy Reyes!!! Just like Santa clause in America, the Tres Reyes
bring naughty boys and girls coal. Well we must've been really bad
because we didn't even get that! Haha but we finally did get hot water
the night before so that was a huge present. But the work was a little
slow today, as it just is during holidays. So we just did the best
that we could and not many people really wanted to talk or really let
us in, so yea. But finally holidays are over so that's good! Except
now, Carnaval starts which is one of the biggest things in Spain,
and it's especially famous in Cadiz and apparently the streets can
get pretty bad... Literally I've heard it's just a month long festival
of inequity and intoxication.
Thursday-
This morning was way awesome. We taught our new investigator Desire.
She has so much desire to learn and it was an awesome feeling.
She really is concerned about where her mother is right now, because
she died sort of recently and she wants to know for sure where she
is. She just kept asking question after question and we told her we
would have to return to answer some of them! She told is she's really
happy to learn but that she doesn't want to be Mormon...(We'll see
about that) haha. Then We ate at Juani's as usual. Then we had correlation
with our ward mission leader. Then we had some other appointments
set with Less actives but they failed us. Then we tried finding
our Bolivian investigator because we haven't seen him in forever and he
wasn't there.
Friday- The
morning was zone meeting and it was cool. I did another musical
number with two other elders and we sang I'll Go Where You Want
Me to Go, and it was a cool arrangement by one of the elders here.
I literally did 0 singing back home, and now I'm doing so much, and
I guess its been fun. Then we talked about our yearly numbers. Our
mission fell short of its baptism goal with 347/542. But that's 347
souls brought to Christ so it's good. Our mission goal for baptisms
this year is 832!!!! It's way high, but I felt the spirit when they said that
number, as did all, so It is achievable. Then we came
back and did some reference contacting, and we got ahold of some people
we received. Then we taught two of our news we met on P day named
Zaira and Rocia and that was cool, they are interested and learning
more.
Saturday- We
played some FUUUTBOOL. More importantly, we invited one of
our less actives sons to play (who isn't baptized) and we got to know
him a little more. I have to say almost all of my progressing investigators
right now are under the age of 20. Young people, they are
good people to teach because it's hard to grow up as a teenager in this
downward spiraling world and people really need faith in Jesus
Christ and Heavenly Father! But yea it was way fun, and we got to
play in a way nice indoor court. Then that evening we were able to stop
by some less actives, most said to come back another day, and we contacted
more references. After that, we had a great family home evening
with one of the awesome families in our ward and it was a very spiritual
lesson.
Sunday-
Usual church in the morning, Javi of course is still coming and
he has a baptismal date officially once again and he's reading the Book
of Mormon and praying so he's doing way well. I have a lot of faith
that I am finally going to have a baptism here and I'm excited and
hopeful. Then we taught one of our futures named Zaira who we met on p
day and is a friend of Javie's. We were playing foosball that p day
and she asked if I wanted to play and I'm not going to lie, she beat
me. 10-5... It was the first time I've been beaten on my mission and
I really tried. But so she's 17 years old, and so we taught her in the
church and did a tour with one of the young women and the young woman,
Sara was absolutely awesome. She was going all out making sure she
knew everything about the young women and all the activities. She was
the key to that lesson. And it was so awesome, zaira she said she wanted
to do all of those things so so much and would love all the activities,
but then just broke down saying she didn't think she could because
her dad is paralyzed and she has to help a lot. Sara, was so awesome
and said that the youth would do anything to help her. So cool.
Then what happened after the lesson wasn't. We were at a house of a
recent convert, and let's just say I've never been involved in a more
intense situation in my mission which involved a very drunk man entering
in the house and talking to the person who lives in the same house
as the recent convert because he owed Money or something and we eventually
had to drag him out kind of and run away. Mission stories!
